Scholarship Program will be coming in 2017

FISports.com plans to offer a scholarship program in 2017 for any and all athletes that also perform in the classroom.  The program will target young athletes, boys and girls who have made an impact on the field and in the classroom.

We look forward to formally announcing this program early 2017.

Black Creek Trail - Hiking Around Fleming Island

The Black Creek Trail parallels U.S. Highway 17, from Orange Park south to Black Creek Park near Lakeside, FL, just south of Jacksonville. Passing through scenic forest and wetlands, the trail traverses Fleming Island, though it's not a true island, flanked on the east by the St. Johns River and Doctor's Lake, a river inlet, on the west.

The trail passes by Moccasin Slough Park, a 255-acre wildlife preserve and nature park, home to alligators, bald eagles, and numerous waterfowl species. The recently developed park includes picnic areas, gazebo, playground and a structure for environmental education programs, all along Raggedy Point Road. There are also upland trails and wetland boardwalks with observation decks and a kayak launch.

Use extreme caution when crossing the several intersections along the trail. Be especially cautious when crossing the intersections at Pace Island and CR 220 at Eagle Harbor. Vehicles turning right don't always respect the "walk" signals, and the walk signal timing is very short.

FISports Vision Committee Announcement

FISports is forming a long term vision Committee to work with the local leagues, CDD Boards, HOA Boards, Clay County Parks, Eagle Harbor Recreation, FIP Recreation, Pace Island  to make sure everyone can understand the needs of today and into the future for Fleming Island and all Clay County residents.

The Committee will play a supportive role and a place where people can go to stay informed on topics around improving and developing new facilities in the Fleming Island Area.

If this sounds like something you would like to be involved with please send your contact information to mcollins323  at gmail for consideration.

Appreciation for Great Businesses and Volunteers

Most all the youth sports leagues in the area are non-profit and rely on local business and volunteers to make them stay up and running.

FISports will be recognizing businesses, individuals that have put in money and hundreds of hours to make our community a little better.

So for now Thanks you to the hundreds of volunteers that run the soccer leagues, football, lacrosse, baseball, softball, flag football, basketball, tennis, golf and on and on.

And Thank You for the business that give thousands of dollars to make the leagues run.

And Thanks You to all Clay County Commissioners and Parks and Recreation Department that support Fleming Island and approve the funding and maintain the parks.
